New website

This post I wrote yesterday has prompted me to get the ball rolling a little bit faster with a new website I had an idea for: Library Jobs - putting the bounce back in your step.

I figured, if I was going to be investigating the job market, that maybe I’d make life easier for myself, and for other people cataloguing the resources/websites that I found. Organiser Girl has been looking for something to get her teeth into!

Jobs for Librarians

Every Monday morning, I log on to my pc at work and I catch up on email. Inevitably there are emails from the aliaNEWGRADs, plenty of which have the word Job ad in the subject. Of these say 20 emails, there will be jobs in NSW, QLD, VIC and if you are really lucky, there might be one job listed for South Australia. This is probably going to be a part time maternity leave position, and might only be a library assistant job, if that. Why is this? Why does it seem that there are NO jobs for librarians in Adelaide?

I’m going to start compiling a list of places that you might check for jobs…. keep your eyes on Library Jobs at lost.net.au. If you have any resources for job hunting Librarians, particularly if you are based in South Australia, please let me know.

Saturday 3rd Feb

This Saturday it’s my Dad’s 66th Birthday - Happy Birthday Dad!

Despite the fact that he can get pretty grumpy sometimes, and have no clue about anything to do with being a woman (let alone living with one!) I love him. Heaps. He might not appear to be listening or paying attention to what’s going on around him, but then when the time really counts, he’s got exactly the right words to say. Even if there are only three of them.

Dad #2

I’d love to hang out with him for his birthday, like last year! I phoned him up from the airport and said “Surprise, I’m about to get on a plane flying to Brisbane” (this was at 7:30 in the morning). He didn’t believe me. It was then absolutely impeccable timing that there was a boarding call for my flight! He believed me then, and I took that opportunity to say “Uhm, do you think you could pick me up at the airport in about 2 1/2 hours?”. I love my family.

So, Dad, because I love you and I want to go out for your birthday, but I can’t make it to Brisbane this year, I’m going to have a great night out, in order to celebrate you and your life. I’d love it if anyone wants to come along. I’m thinking dinner out, and then I’ve just found out that Kasey Taylor is playing at Electric Light on Saturday night!

Kasey Taylor - Electric Light
