Everything is going well. I have been in Vanuatu for almost 2 months now.

I also have been putting some photos online . I received some mail just the other week, and it had taken almost a month to get to me. I have a mobile number that works when I am in Port Vila..The number is: +67847226. I think I can receive texts from Australia, but I’m not sure that it works from all the phone networks.

It has been very hard to communicate with people back in Australia as I have not had any Internet access out in Lamen Bay on Epi Island. I have been in Port Vila since Saturday the 1st of September. The week before was school holidays and our generator ran out of fuel so we were in the dark at night time. Cooking by head torch etc. Pretty exciting.

I was hoping to fly back to Lamen Bay this coming Saturday, but the flights are full. There are only two flights a week to Lamen Bay from Port Vila. It’s pretty frustrating. I have a booking on the flight that goes out on Tuesday the 18th of September. I am hoping that I might be able to get a cargo boat to Lamen Bay. That’s the next thing that I need to find out about tomorrow.

I have put some photos up on flickr, and I will hopefully put some more up tomorrow.

Droplets

I have been doing some creative writing in my spare time to keep my mind active. Here’s something that I wrote on August the 20th.

Big droplets of water splash off the large green leaves of the plant outside my bedroom window.

It’s hot in here. The rain has cooled the air outside, but it’s still so warm inside. My skin feels clammy, sticky with sweat from the day. The curtains are open to let the breeze in. It’s wishful thinking, as there’s no movement of air.

As I lie in bed and wait for it to cool down, I munch on the dried fruit and nuts from my muesli. There are ants in the muesli. Tiny brown ants, much smaller than the ants that got into food in my kitchen in Australia. I think I may have eaten a few ants, they didn’t taste too bad. The ants have realised that there’s nothing sweet left in the muesli so they’re moving on. Marching out of the plastic container and across the bed.
