Surrealism

During 2000 when I was in London I visited a Salvador Dali exhibition. Having studied art at high school and being brought up by a creative mother I was already familiar with Dali’s work. Nonetheless, I was still fascinated by his paintings and sculptures. I fell in love with Dali’s work all over again.

2003 saw me visiting an Australian Surrealism exhibition at the Art Gallery of South Australia where I discovered the work of James Gleeson. I have a postcard print of one of his paintings up at work near my desk.

Pre-Raphaelites

I love the pre-raphaelite art movement, in particular the work of John William Waterhouse.

I have two of his prints on our walls at home:

miranda - the tempest by jw waterhouse

Miranda - the Tempest

hylas and the nymphs by jw waterhouse

I’ve put together an art album; the album includes some of my favourite John William Waterhouse paintings.

Anna Pignataro, a children’s book illustrator

There is a fantastic children’s book illustrator that I would like to introduce you to.

Anna Pignataro is an Australian woman, I’m not sure where she is based but I’d recommend (if you appreciate a good story and some great artwork) to head on down to your local (library, not pub) and see if you can get hold of some of these books.
