The best breakfast

Porridge with soy milk and canned red beans! Yum. The beans are sweet, so you don’t need to add much (maybe a table spoon full) to your breakfast. The flavour of the porridge is to die for.  Hmmmmmm I think this is the best combination I’ve had yet. I’ll have to run up and down the stairs a few times this morning to burn the sugar off though :)

Eat right for your type

We’ve started the new year with a new diet plan. After putting a request on the book Eat right for your type at the library, it finally came in just after new years.

My blood type is B+ve, so we’re giving the b group blood type diet a go. It’s not too restrictive, and you get used to some of the things that you can’t eat (wheat, tomatoes for starters!).

One of the things that we’ve been recommended to drink in the mornings is a “Membrane Fluidizer Cocktail” (MFC). Yes, that’s right! That’s the name of it!

To make a MFC:

In a shaker container put 1 tablespoon each of lecithin granules and flaxseed oil in 177 - 236 ml (6 to 8 ounces) of a fruit juice compatible with the blood type (almost all fruits for type B), and shake (and shake and shake and shake).

Flaxseed oil can help to lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, decrease the risk of heart disease and reduce symptoms of inflammatory bowel diseases such as Chrohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

Flaxseed oil contains omega-3 fatty acids and these can assist sufferers of arthritis, decrease the risk of breast cancer, decrease the risk of depression, improve lung function, decrease the symptoms of menstrual pain.

I wonder if it might help my Dad deal with some of the symptoms of Parkinson’s.

The MFC I have to say, hasn’t tasted great so far, but maybe that’s the combination of juices that I used (Grape and Cranberry). I’m thinking that maybe carrot/beetroot t juice might be more suitable. I’m going to check the book this afternoon to see what other types of juicable fruits and vegetables are highly beneficial.

Ugh, what a day

Spent another day in bed, in the bathroom, on the couch with what I think might have been food poisoning. Got home last night from a party and went and threw up. Crashed out asleep, woke up this morning and ugh. Headache, nausea, gut pains, vomiting and last but not least diarrhoea. I’ve only now just been able to get it together to make some toast with vegemite. I hope it stays down.

On other news, I have some of my Canberra photos on Flickr that have been included in a Schmap guide.

The boy bought the dog a new collar today, it’s red with silver studs. She looks like a rock dog now!

More lying down for me now I think. I’ve got such a headache.

Wrap up: SCSF 2006 (spring edn)

Were these meals cooked by the new Jamie Oliver?

And the winner is….

Team “Meat and One Veg”. Well done Dale and Troy.

I’m guessing Dale’s the meat and Troy’s the Veg? :)
More photos can be seen on Flickr. If you’d like a copy of the DVD, please let me know.

Wheel of life

The Wheel of life keeps on turning and another day, week, month, year passes us by. The past week has been yet another crazy busy one with all sorts of excitement and challenges.

My dear friend Annie’s mother died this week after a long battle with cancer. My thoughts and love go to you Annie, and to your family. The time in limbo is over for you my dear, the grief process started some time ago, but now, you can truly start the healing process and become your own person.

Yesterday I took Annie out to Ying Chow, one of my favourite Chinese restaurants. She tried salt and pepper bean curd for the first time and it was a hit. The boy ordered a crocodile dish and I, being all up for trying new things, ate some. It was a combination between fish and chicken. More of a fishy texture, but with a taste more similar to chicken, but blander. Crikey!
