Librarian stereotypes

Just this week I’ve met two new people (both male) - friends of friends. Both of them have hit me with that “wow you’re a librarian, I’ve always had a thing for librarians, that whole let your hair down from a bun and take your glasses off thing that librarians can do…”

Does anyone else ever hear this?

Also, how many more times can you deal with those jokes at parties from inebriated people about “have you been having a fun time tonight giving all the books here a dewey decimal number” and other such inane gags?

My standard replies are things like “yes, in fact, I’m wearing contact lenses right now, you got me on that. Do you want me to put my hair in a bun for you and grab my cardigan out of the car…” etc

Joe Rocket Roxie

red.jpgThis leather jacket, designed for wearing whilst riding motorbikes has really caught my eye. You know that I love red, especially if you’ve seen me wearing the red leather jacket that I’ve already got. This one’s different though, this one, you can ride a motorbike in. Nice.

Cheapest place I’ve seen it so far, is about $269 USD at New Enough.

mattt bags

I recently bought myself a new “mattt” shoulder bag at St Kilda Esplanade Markets in Melbourne before Christmas the to replace my well loved little star bag.  I seem to have good luck with buying bags at markets, as I bought my little star bag at the Eagle Street Markets in Brisbane some years ago. You’ll all remember that bag, it’s the blue denim style bag with the red star on the front, also known as my “Communist bag”.

Materials:

1000 Denier Dupont Cordura
Used for the outside of the bag, Cordura has a waterproof
coating and is usually found in high-end outdoor equipment.

Canvas
Used for the lining of the bag and pockets, heavyweight
canvas is a durable yet soft material perfect for protecting
the contents of your bag.

YKK Zippers
Used throughout the bag, YKK coil zippers are the best available. A #5 zipper is used for the main compartment, and a #3 for the inside pocket.

Seatbelt Webbing
Used for the adjustable straps, seatbelt webbing is a very strong yet soft so will not damage delicate clothing or irritate bare skin. A 40mm wide webbing is used on the compact shoulderbag.

The pattern fabric that my bag is made from is an imported Japanese fabric:

You only live once

[as far as i know].

Last night I couldn’t sleep. I went to sleep okay, then woke up around 1:30 am, and was awake until 5 am! My alarm went off at 6:30 this morning. I’m shattered.

Despite this, I still managed to use my time during the night quite productively. I did some research on digital cameras and prices, and I shopped around online for a pair of red cowboy boots from the United States. I found some great pairs of boots, but a lot of the companies didn’t do international shipping. Eventually, I found one! I have a pair of Durango Women’s 11-inch red leather western boots coming my way from The Boot Corral, in Ohio.

* 11-inch Leather Upper
* Cowgirl Heel, #2 Toe
* Cushion Insole
* Handstained Composition Outsole
* Leather Shaft Lining
* Taped Side Seams

Now I just have to pay for them, $84.99 USD, plus shipping on top of that. Shouldn’t cost too much, and to be honest, where are you going to get something like that in Adelaide?

Costume help

I’ve been invited to a party this Saturday night with the theme of Lords and Ladies. Usually I’m pretty good with coming up with costume ideas. However, I’m stumped on this one. Any suggestions would be most welcome.
