Just the models from American Gothic

Standing next to the painting. NB…

Grant Wood saw a house in Iowa that he decided to paint along with “the kind of people [he] fancied should live in that house.” He chose his sister and his dentist.

WTFWTFWTF we JUST did a (lame, family) photoshoot of this exact painting, this past weekend. aaah! my mind is blown. blown!

(also, that photo needs a pitchfork, heh. the dentist sure looks grumpy enough…)

My father knew both models. He said the dentist was as dour as he looks, but my dad liked the artist’s daughter. Said she was really a nice person and much better looking than in the painting.

Grant Wood told his dentist not to worry, he would change it enough that no one would recognize him in the painting. Clearly, that didn’t happen.
