Smencils

These are so cool! Smencils are gourmet scented pencils made from rolled up recycled newspaper.

Smencils are made by rolling sheets of newspaper tightly around the #2 graphite writing cores until the pencils are formed. Next they’re hardened, allowing them to be sharpened just like wood pencils. Then they’re soaked with gourmet liquid scents (made by an award winning fragrance company). Once they’re dry, erasers are attached and the stickers applied. According to the Smencils website, an average sized cedar tree will make about 172,000 wood pencils, while 172,000 Smencils can be made from 430 newspapers.

Smencils come in ten delicious flavours, which are guaranteed to last for two years:
bubblegum
cherry
pineapple
grape
fruit punch
cinnamon
peppermint
orange
watermelon
root beer

Smencils also offer a great fundraising opportunity. Check out the website for more details.

Demeter Fragrances

I went to school with a girl who claimed that if she could only smell like one thing for the rest of her life, it’d be chocolate chip cookies. At that time, the only way we could think to make this happen would be for her to work full-time in a bakery. Now, though, all she needs to do is visit Demeter Fragrances.

Choose between some bizarre and exotic fragrances. Here’s a list of some of my favourites:

Chocolate chip cookies
Funeral home
Grass
Laundromat
Paperback
Play-Doh
Sticky toffee pudding
Waffles

You can buy each scent as cologne, room spray, bath and shower gel, calming lotion and more. And they’re pretty reasonably priced too, coming in at around $19 US for a 1 oz bottle of cologne.
