Meat Men

A few weeks ago I went to Brixton Market and took photos of the fishmongers and butchers. See the whole set here.

I was telling someone the other day about how I take photos of men on the street and how I write stories about men, and they thought it was strange. Is it strange? I guess it’s strange. But look at them! Don’t you think they’re beautiful?

  1. I don’t think it is strange. I think it is courageous. There are so many people who take portraits of beautiful women that it is refreshing to see portraits of beautiful men, especially from a woman’s point of view.

I love these, especially the last one. The lights above his head are perfect.

How do you ask people to take their picture? I am always terrified to do this, even when it’s someone I know!

Mandy, I find it terrifying. But I guess it helps being a woman and being short and acting innocent. If you smile they can’t say no! And if they do, well so be it. It’s not the end of the world and you just move onto the next one. And my friends are so used to being art directed by me that they just do what they’re told now.

  5. The wonderful thing about taking pictures of strangers regularly is that you start seeing the beauty of everyone around you in a much sharper way: all the fantastic details that make people so special. These are great Vic!
