The sun, the drums

I have six working days left until I go home for a month. I want to take photos like this of my friends in the sun. I want to swim in the sea.

I need books to read on the plane. I need music to listen to on the plane. Do you have any suggestions? I just finished Freedom and I miss Patty and I miss Joey. Last night I saw The Drums who were terrifically young and fearless.

This is amazing. You are amazing.

not knowing you at all, it’s hard to suggest a book as i’m sure tastes differ tremendously. good luck with your choices though!

If it helps, my favourite books are Revolutionary Road, The Old Man and The Sea and everything Dave Eggers has ever written! x

  6. I really loved the book “Hilary and Jackie” about the cellist Jacqueline Du Pre who fell ill with multiple sclerosis, written by her brother and sister. I thought it was a beautiful and interesting account of her life.

Also anything by Rohinton Mistry, but especially “A Fine Balance”, it’s one of my favourite books.

And a collection of short stories “The Things they Carried”, by Tim O’Brien has really deeply resonated with me.

Have the best time with your family.

    – East of Eden by John Steinbeck: I’m reading it at the moment and it’s utterly brilliant.
    – The Man In The Gray Flannel Suit by Sloan Wilson. Mr Franzen wrote an introduction for a recent edition, I believe it’s one of his favourite books? It’s terrific, anyway.

  19. Oh, I want to read The Sea the Sea. Revolutionary Road is still on my bedside table. To be read again? Take this with you: A Wrinkle in Time. Oh yes! Also this (maybe too hard to travel with) The Invention of Hugo Cabret.

I don’t think you should read anything on the plane. You should spend the entire time thinking of nice things to say to us all out here. It will take time. Can’t wait to see your mug. xc
